Pernod Ricard Bans Plastic Straws And Stirrers

Drinks giant Pernod Ricard has decided to stop using non-biodegradable plastic straws and drinks stirrers in any part of its business.

In a statement released this week, the company says that it has asked all its affiliates globally to ensure that they are not used at any Pernod Ricard events in the future.

The company, which produces drinks brands such as Absolut, Jameson and Malibu, says that this move is part of its environmental commitments.

"We know that this type of non-biodegradable plastic is having a detrimental impact on the environment and oceans, and for us it’s crucial that we play our role in helping to prevent any further damage,” said Vanessa Wright, group VP for sustainability and responsibility.

Pernod Ricard aims to reduce its waste to landfill from 913 tonnes today, to zero by 2020.
