New Sauternes Created To Be Mixed With Perrier Water

Château Smith Haut Lafitte has created a Sauternes intended to be mixed with Perrier water and ice

The two brands have combined to ride the ever-rising tide of spritzes in France. The mix is intended for a young demographic, and will be marketed accordingly. Furthermore, it will be made from young grapes, and will thus be relatively light, which is a property in drinks to which most young drinkers in Europe are attracted.

The Cathiard family, which partially owns Château Smith Haut Lafitte, has said that two estates have been earmarked to produce the new 'SO Sauternes', though these have yet to be divulged to the media or public.

Florence Cathiard was quoted as saying on Decanter.com, “There will always be a place for the great Sauternes wines. This is simply an alternative for the younger generation, an aperitif that we hope will later lead them back to this wonderful appellation.”

The wine will only be available in France initially.
