Pervez To Take Managing Director Role At Bestway

Trading director Dawood Pervez has been named as the new managing director of wholesaler Bestway, replacing Martin Race in the role, The Grocer has reported.

Perez is the youngest son of Bestway founder Sir Anwar Pervez. Trained as a lawyer, he joined the company in 2002, taking responsibility for its export division as well as legal and HR functions, before becoming trading director.

The leadership changes are effective from 30 November.

Long Career

Race spent 26 years at wholesaler Batleys before joining Bestway as trading director in 2014.

He was promoted to managing director in 2016, and was one of the main catalysts of the group’s acquisition of Conviviality’s retail operations earlier this year, The Grocer reported.

The trade publication said that Bestway CEO Zameer Choudrey paid tribute to Race’s contribution to the business, hailing his “commendable dedication” to the business, as well as his pivotal role in “overseeing the business’s return to strong, profitable growth”.

On the appointment of Pervez as managing director, Choudrey added that the company is now in “very good hands, led by someone who has exceptional knowledge and experience within the company and the industry”, according to The Grocer.
