P&G Pledges ‘Total Recyclability’ On Gillette Razor Blades

Procter & Gamble has said that for the first time, all of its Gillette disposable razors, replaceable-blade cartridge units and razor plastic packaging are now recyclable in the US.

The group has teamed up with recycling body Terracycle to promote ways in which consumers can recycle their razor products after use, including the location of drop-off points and information about postal returns.

Recycling Innovation

“Through this innovative, first of its kind program, disposable razors, replaceable-blade cartridge units and their associated packaging are now nationally recyclable through the Gillette Recycling Program,” commented TerraCycle CEO and founder Tom Szaky.

“We are proud to partner with this forward-thinking company to offer consumers a way to divert razor waste from landfills.”

Szaky said that the move represents an “important first step” towards sustainable solutions for shaving products, with plans underway to roll the initiative out to other markets.

Gillette chief executive Gary Coombe said that the initiative marks the “start of an exciting journey with Gillette and TerraCycle”.
