Sainsbury's Trials In-Store Zizzi Pizza Counter

UK retailer Sainsbury's is trialling a new partnership with Italian restaurant chain Zizzi, which will see the launch of an in-store pizza counter.

The counter will serve the brand's freshly-made premium stone base pizzas to takeaway, offering a selection of toppings, vegan options, garlic breads, and a 'Pizza of the Month' special.

Sainsbury's customers will be able to order the pizzas in store, on the Zizzi website, or through the Deliveroo food delivery platform.

The retailer's Balham store in south London will be the first to test the new takeaway concept.

“We are extremely excited about our new partnership with Sainsbury’s," said Steve Holmes, CEO of Zizzi.

"Offering our signature Rustica Pizzas to go in Sainsbury’s is a natural progression in providing another convenient way for customers to purchase their favourite pizza, ready to eat”.

Convenience Concepts

Sainsbury's says that this partnership with Zizzi is part of its ongoing commitment to offer customers a range of different and convenient food options.

“We’re committed to offering our customers an even greater choice of delicious, high-quality food in our stores and, by working with some of the best high street food brands such as Zizzi, we’re attracting new shoppers," said Adrian Cook, Sainsbury's director of fresh food.

"We think customers will love the convenience of being able to pick up their ready to eat, restaurant-quality pizza alongside their other favourite foods for a special meal, all under one roof.”

Sainsbury's is already in the process of rolling out its Sushi Gourmet and Patisserie Valerie counters following a successful trial earlier this year, while last week it launched new coffee-to-go bars in six of its stores.

Last month, separate to the Zizzi partnership, the retailer announced that it was trialling a hot pizza pre-ordering service in three Sainsbury's supermarkets, allowing customers to order a pizza online and collect in-store half an hour later.
