Aldi Nord Introduces New Reusable Shopping Bag

German discount retailer Aldi Nord has announced that it is replacing disposable bags with a long-lasting reusable one, which is available in-stores from 1 October.

In July, both Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd committed to eliminating disposable bags, both plastic and paper, from their stores in Germany

As Aldi Nord begins this changeover process, starting with its stores in Berlin, the price of disposable bags has risen from 10 to 20 cents, in an effort to encourage customers to switch to the reusable option. The money collected from these sales is being used to support environmental organisations.

Sustainability

“With the introduction of the new carrier bag, we want to give our customers a further opportunity to make a simple contribution to environmental protection,” said Rayk Mende, Aldi Nord managing director of corporate responsibility .

The new reusable carrier bag, made from old foil, costs 45 cents, which Aldi says makes it one of the cheapest alternatives to disposable bags.
