Portuguese Wine Exports Grow 25% In Six Years

Portuguese wine exports were worth €740 million in 2015, a 2 per cent growth on 2014 and 25 per cent higher compared to 2009.

A study by Informa D&B reveals that wine imports to Portugal amounted to just €126 million last year, accounting for a trade surplus for the sector of over €600 million.

However, national wine production in the season 2014-2015 recorded a 0.6 per cent decline compared to the previous season.

The number of Portuguese companies active in the wine sector in recent years has maintained an upward trend, standing at 1,070 at the end of 2014.

Portugal’s wine sector is mainly composed of small-scale operators, with less than ten employees on average.
