Poundland To Phase Out Sales Of Kitchen Knives By End Of October

Single-price retailer Poundland has announced that it will stop selling kitchen knives in all its 755 stores in the UK and the Republic of Ireland by the end of October.

The product has already been removed from its outlets within London and the West Midlands region.

The move will make the retailer the first on the high street to remove kitchen knives from its portfolio.

Commitment To Safety

Poundland’s retail director, Austin Cooke, said, “The decision to stop selling kitchen knives nationwide is a commitment that we know means a lot to both our colleagues and our customers.

Over the past four years, Poundland made significant efforts to ensure that kitchen knives are only sold in sealed plastic packaging and in aisles monitored by CCTV.

The decision to discontinue the sales of kitchen knives was made after considering concerns raised by the retailer's customers and employees.

“The safety of our colleagues and customers is crucial and we hope our fellow retailers will follow our lead in playing a responsible role in preventing knife-related incidents.”

The retailer has also called on other high street retailers to implement similar measures.
