Private Label Sales In Greece Grow 5% Year-On-Year

Greece's private-label product sales grew at a rate of 5% per annum from 2010 to 2013, according to new research by the Institute of Retail Consumer Goods (IELKA).

The change in consumer shopping habits is due to the economic crisis and a sharp slide in disposable incomes which has driven consumers from big brands to own brand, says IELKA and Balkans Business News.

The rise in popularity has come about as private-label products in Greence are on average 45% cheaper their big-brand competitors.

While in some other cases, such as personal hygiene and domestic cleaning products, they cost up to 50% less. Despite these products’ high growth rate in Greece during this tough economic period, their market share remains relatively low, at just 20%, compared with the European Union average of 37% reports Balkan Business news and Kathimerini.
