In the UK, Aldi's own-brand washing-up liquid has become the best-performing product in its category, even beating Fairy Liquid.
The consumer group Which? carried out a test of 13 washing-up liquids, in which Aldi's Magnum Premium scored highest, at 89 per cent. It was also rated as very good value for money, at £0.79 for 500ml. Fairy Platinum came a close second for performance, with a score of 88 per cent, but it is much more costly, at £1.70 for 383ml.
The results of the test showed that Aldi's Magnum Premium cleans almost three times as many plates per £1 as Fairy does.
Over the past nine years, Fairy has been the top scorer six times. Aldi has taken top position on three occasions.
