Aldi Süd Introduces Animal Welfare Label On Its Cheese

German retailer Aldi Süd has introduced an animal welfare label on its private label cheese.

Aldi's label, Fair & Gut, has been in use since 2018, and has already been introduced to meat, eggs and milk.

With this move, "we show that we take our responsibility towards animals and environment very seriously," commented Kristina Bell, group buying director, Aldi Süd.

According to Aldi, the label fulfils the basic requirements of the 'Deutsche Tierschutzbund'.

It guarantees inter alia that farms receive constant monitoring by an independent certificate authority, cows have more space in which to move around, and all fodder used GMO-free.

The certified cheese, Landkäse, is available in three varieties, and costs €1.59. According to Aldi, it meets increased demand for products with high ecological standards.
