Carrefour Extends Partnership With Uber Eats In France, Belgium

Carrefour has announced the extension of its partnership with delivery service Uber Eats, with the rollout of services outside the Ile-de-France region, and also in Belgium.

The retailer introduced a shopping platform via Uber Eats on April 6, serving the Paris region, with shoppers able to avail of deliveries within 30 minutes from around 15 Carrefour stores.

This was then rolled out to 100 stores as of the end of April, then to 200 in early June, and to 300 stores at the beginning of July.

Extended Reach

As of today, the Uber Eats service is available in 91 urban areas, covering 25 of the French population, Carrefour said in a statement.

At launch, some 130 SKUs were available using the service, which has been extended to 250 SKUs. Carrefour is seeking to grow this to 300 SKUs by the start of the school year, it said.

“Carrefour is very proud of the collaboration developed with Uber Eats, which allows our customers, in France and abroad, to have ever easier access to home grocery delivery, with channels that complement our own services," commented Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, executive director of e-commerce, data and digital transformation of Carrefour.

Belgium Launch

The service is to be launched in Belgium in September, it added, with its introduction to Brussels and Liège, offering both grocery delivery and meal solutions.

Carrefour also operates an Uber Eats partnership in Taiwan, which was rolled out at the end of 2019 and covers eight cities.

Stéphane Ficaja, general manager, Uber Eats Europe Middle East Africa, said that the business was "very happy to be able to continue to strengthen our strategic partnership with an expert player such as Carrefour, and to democratise access to grocery delivery to all French people through a reliable, fast and affordable experience".
