Cherkizovo Group Sees Turkey Sales Up In First Quarter

Russian meat processor Cherkizovo Group has reported an 8% year-on-year increase in turkey sales volumes to 10,690 tonnes in the first quarter of its financial year.

The average price of turkey increased 10% to RUB 190.9 per kilogram during the quarter, boosted by the sales of Pava-Pava branded products.

Chicken sales volumes saw a 3% decline to 169,300 tonnes compared to the same period last year.

The company's premium brand, Petelinka, saw sales volumes in line with the previous year's results, while the Chicken Kingdom branded products accounted for 3% of total sales, Cherkizovo added.

Average sales price increased by 22% year-on-year, driven by a higher share of branded, value-added products and foodservice sales recovery, following COVID-19-induced restrictions a year ago.

Pork Production

The company's live pork production volumes declined by 20% year-on-year in the first quarter, to 61,900 tonnes.

The sales of pork carcass declined by 32% year-on-year, with prices up 24%, while pork cuts saw 15% growth to 8,100 tonnes, with the average selling price up by 7% compared to the first quarter of 2020.

The company's RTE meat processing unit saw sales volumes grow 4%, to 26,300 thousand tonnes, while the average sales price increased by 5% year-on-year.

Performance In March

Turkey emerged as the top performer in March, with sales volumes up 16%, to 4,140 tonnes, while prices increased 11% to RUB 195.20 per kilogram.

Chicken sales volumes declined by 1% to 60,960 tonnes, while the price per kilogram increased by 25% to RUB 133.30.

The sales of pork carcass declined by 32% to 5,830 tonnes, while the price increased 16% to RUB 151.41 per kilogram.

Samson food products reported a 48% growth in sales volumes to 3,150 tonnes in March.
