Coop Italia Certifies Solidal Private Label As Fairtrade

Italian food retailer Coop Italia has certified its 'Solidal' private label line as Fairtrade.

Created in 1995, the Solidal food and non-product line consists of products purchased in countries in the developing world, without the need for intermediaries. The private label line aims to provide self-development opportunities to the producers at a disadvantage.

The Solidal private line consists of a wide range of high-quality fresh and packaged products, such as chocolate and chocolate spread, coffee and tea, sugar, honey, cereal and muesli, rice, crackers, fruit and flowers.

Currently, the Fairtrade-certified offer consists of 40 references, of which 14 are organic, supplied by over 50 cooperatives and producer groups operating in over 20 developing countries.

Through Fairtrade certification, producers are guaranteed stable prices, subsidised pre-financing and long-term purchase contracts.
