Middle Eastern Food On The Rise For Waitrose

Waitrose has recorded major growth in sales of its Middle Eastern product range, with preserved lemons, a key ingredient in many Middle Eastern and North African recipes, seeing growth of 72% since this time last year. Harissa, a spicy, chilli-based paste has seen sales increase of 62%, while Sumac, a product which has been available at Waitrose for 11 years, saw sales increase by 23% over the past year.

Recent figures from Waitrose showed a 23% increase in fresh dip sales and a 30% climb in fresh appetizer sales. Hummus is by far the most popular of these dips, and has become such a popular option at Waitrose that the British retailer stocks ten own-label variants and cites the chickpea and Tahini dip as one of the best-sellers in their delicatessen department.
