Ready Meals Market Booming In Czech Republic

The ready meals market in Czech Republic is being driven by new trends that are taking over from the traditional cooking, according to a new report.

The findings released by market research firm Food For Thought found that consumers are increasingly looking for healthy eating and convenience, with chilled ready meals being the most dynamic segment accounting for just under a third of the market.

Meanwhile, frozen ready meals continue to remain the largest segment, though chilled ready meals are not far behind, followed by dehydrated ready meals.

Another noteworthy segment is the frozen pizza category, which is developing rapidly - although from a very low consumption base.

The study revealed how canned ready meals have retained a steady position in the market, supported by the traditional Czech cuisine, which include goulash and specialties that are based on pulses and meat.

While canned pasta is a small market, it is dynamic and more and more adapted to traditional cooking habits; for example, the Hame brand, owned by Nordic Partners, is promoting canned pasta with meat and vegetables.

Dehydrated ready meals suppliers are also active with new ranges like instant pasta with traditional sauces, which are consumed mostly outside of the home - pasta with goulash flavor being one such example.

The study shows how shoppers in the market are making food purchasing decisions that are based on convenience rather than traditional cooking.
