86 Catalonian Wineries To Attend German Wine Fair Prowein 2016

The world's leading trade fair for wine professionals, Prowein, will see 86 different wineries from Catalonia exhibiting their best bottles.

This figure represents an increase of 14 per cent compared with 2015 and a remarkable 96 per cent more than in 2014. The fair, held in Düsseldorf from the March 13 to 15, brings together representatives from every wine region, as well as suppliers from all sectors.

The Catalonian companies attending are supported by the Conselleria de Agricultura and aim to strengthen commercial relations, attract business and showcase themselves to the 45,000 professional buyers expected at the fair. They'll be amongst 4,783 exhibitors from 50 different countries.

Germany is the main destination for Catalonian wine exports, receiving 17.96 per cent of its exports. Other main consumers are Belgium, the US, the UK, Japan and France. The country is also the fifth biggest market for wine, with a consumption per capita of 23.5 litres a year.

For Catalonia, a region with 8,906 wine makers and 595 bodegas and bottling plants, Prowein represents a huge opportunity for growing its international sales.
