New Milk Factory To Supply Jerónimo Martins

A new milk processing plant set to be opened by Portuguese retail and services consortium Jerónimo Martins Agroalimentar, which will open in H1 2017, will entirely cover the group’s needs on the domestic market.

The new plant, worth €40 million, will allow Jerónimo Martins Agroalimentar to triple its current production, reaching 90 million litres per year, company CEO Antonio Serrano told Vida Económica in an interview.

He also said that, for the moment, there are no plans to export milk to the Ara supermarkets in Colombia owned by the group.

Since June 2015, Jerónimo Martins Agroalimentar has been using the Serraleite cooperative, in Portalegre for its dairy needs, resulting in a 15 per cent increase in UHT milk production and of about 2,000 per cent in cream production.

Jerónimo Martins Agroalimentar is part of the Jerónimo Martins group, which operates the Pingo Doce supermarkets and Recheio Cash & Carry chain in Portugal.
