Pringles Unveils New Recyclable Paper Packaging Format

Snack brand Pringles has unveiled a new recyclable paper tube, which the Kellogg-owned business says forms part of its commitment to ensuring all of its packaging is 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable by the end of 2025.

The new packaging format is currently being trialled at selected Tesco stores in East Anglia, in the UK, ahead of a planned wider rollout.

"We are eager to play our part and reduce our impact on the planet. Pringles fans expect that of us too," commented Miranda Prins, Pringles vice-president.

"So, we’ve worked hard to come up with this new can which is widely recyclable and keeps our chips fresh and tasty and protects them from breaking up – which helps to reduce food waste."

Customer Feedback

Prins said that the Tesco trial will deliver valuable data and consumer feedback, which will determine the company's future plans for the packaging format.

"At this stage it is too early to say whether we’ll roll out this new paper tube, however, the information we collect will help us understand if people like it and if it works on the supermarket shelf and at home," she said. "This trial will help us create the Pringles can of the future.”

Current Pringles packaging is comprised of foil, paper board, metal and plastic, meaning it is difficult to recycle. The new paper cans will be trialled with a paper lid and a plastic lid, both of which can be recycled.
