Ahold Delhaize Announces Retirement Of Supervisory Board Chairman

Ahold Delhaize has announced that the chairman of its supervisory board, Jan Hommen, will retire on 31 December 2020.

Hommen has been a part of the board for both Ahold Delhaize and Ahold.

He served as the chairman of the supervisory board of Ahold Delhaize between 2018 and 2020, and as the vice-chairman from 2016 and 2018.

At Ahold, Hommen held the position of the chairman from 2013 and 2016 and as vice-chairman between 2003 and 2007, the company added.

'Clarity On Transition'

Commenting on his departure from the company, Hommen said, “Although it is hard to leave Ahold Delhaize, the timely preparation and clarity on transition is particularly important in view of the macro-economic uncertainty in the coming years.”

The retail giant has named Peter Agnefjӓll as the new chairman of the supervisory board, effective 1 January 2021.

Until then, he will serve as vice-chairman of the board and work closely with Hommen to ensure a smooth transition, the company added.

Agnefjӓll joined the supervisory board of Ahold Delhaize in April 2019.

He is an experienced professional, who was the president and CEO of the IKEA group from 2013 to 2017.

Hommen added, “He has extensive retail experience, leadership and knowledge of omnichannel and e-commerce, and is well-positioned to lead the board in supporting the company to deliver its Leading Together strategy.”
