Ahold Delhaize Opens Four New Stores In Serbia

Dutch-Belgian retailer Ahold Delhaize opened four new Shop & Go convenience stores in Serbia during the month of December 2016.

The new stores are located in Novi Sad (Gunduliceva) and Belgrade (Savada, Vranic and Gunjak).

The company also opened two renovated stores, one each in Belgrade (Stepojevac) and Novi Sad (Narodnog Fronta).

Shop & Go offers a wide range of products for customers on the move – including salads, snacks, juices and coffee. This store format replaced the Mini Max convenience stores.

Ahold Delhaize has over 160 Shop & Go stores in Serbia, each with an average size of 120 square metres and selling 2,500 products. The stores offer attractive weekly and bi-weekly promotional offers and a new and innovative assortment of ‘on-the-go’ products.

In a recent interview for the Tanjug news agency, the COO of Ahold Delhaize Serbia, John Kyritsis said that the local market has great potential and is slowly stabilising and recovering.

He stated that the company's strategy remains the same because it has shown results, and that the efforts of the retailer will focus not only on Belgrade but also on expanding to other parts of Serbia.

According to Kyritsis, supermarket chain Maxi has more than 1 million customers a month and is among the top five employers in Serbia. He added that Maxi will fight to keep its leading position, while remodeling operations to the highest European standards.

Ahold Delhaize has been present in Serbia for five years with three store formats: Maxi (supermarkets), Tempo (hypermarkets) and Shop & Go (convenience stores).
