Dutch supermarket giant Ahold has reported strong results for its third quarter, a rise in prices partly led to the retailer's better-than-expected figures. ?Operating profit increased by around 15 per cent to €300 million for the three months to October 9.
Net profit increased with net sales rising by 2.5 per cent to €6.9 billion. The group’s Albert Heijn chain in its home market experienced a rise in sales of 4.5 per cent to €2.3 billion; like-for-like sales increased by 3.0 per cent. Sales in Eastern Europe rose by 5.4 per cent to €392 million.
Ahold is continuing with its cost savings programme to limit price increases, said Ahold CEO Dick Boer. (Nov 22)
