Albert Heijn Launches New Hotel Loyalty Campaign

Albert Heijn has launched a new loyalty campaign, in which customers can save up for a discounted stay at a range of hotels in The Netherlands and Belgium.

The campaign invites customers to collect a ‘hotel stamp’ for every €10 they spend at Albert Heijn supermarkets, or at the retailer’s online shop, excluding ‘AH to go’ convenience stores in the Netherlands, and Ahold-Delhaize outlets in Belgium.

A full card - with ten stamps - promises the customer a 50% discount on the second night of their stay at one of the participating hotels; equalling a maximum 25% discount, for a minimum two-night stay.

Further analysis by ESM found that, according to the website, the customer also needs to spend roughly an extra €100 to avail of the hotel deal. This is in addition to the €100 already spent on shopping in order to collect the stamps. Financially, the loyalty scheme rewards the hotels' availability to support it, more generously than the customers' efforts to avail of it.

The campaign launched on 27 February and runs until 26 March. Discounted hotel nights can be booked until 1 October 2017, for dates up to and including January 2018.
