Aldi Launches New ‘Local’ Store In South London

Aldi has unveiled a new, smaller retail concept in Balham, south London, in a move that is seen by many as a potential first outlet for a new convenience concept.

The store, which bears the name Aldi Local, is 6,500 square feet in size, around twice the size of a regular convenience store, and offers 300 fewer SKUs than a regular Aldi.

New Concept

According to Retail Gazette, the new trial store forms part of a new brand identity “to help shoppers distinguish between its smaller city stores in London and the conventional-sized Aldis”.

Aldi also operates ‘city’ stores in London suburbs Tooting, Kingston, Kilburn and Archway, however these do not carry Aldi Local branding.
