Allegations that trainees at discount supermarket Aldi were wrapped in clingfilm, chained to posts and had their faces scrawled on with permanent marker, 'represents the truth' according to company spokesperson. Further allegations of the mistreatment of employees at the company, which is based in Germany, also include bullying using vermin and subjecting staff to “psychological terror”, according to a former manager.
Andreas Straub, who worked for Aldi Sud made the claims in a book, 'Inside Aldi', published about his time with the retail giant.
Aldi has had to repeatedly deny spying on staff but told a German national paper that it was "shocked" by the latest allegations and would "do everything" to investigate the reports.
"To our dismay, our internal investigation shows that the incident described does in essence represent the truth," said an Aldi spokesperson with regard the latest claims.
"We regret this incident in the distribution centre in Mahlberg, which according to our research, took place at the end of 2012/beginning of 2013 and are deeply concerned."
