Aldi To Open Its Very First Store In Majorca

Although the discounter has enjoyed a heavy presence throughout most of Europe's key market's for a number of years, including mainland Spain, Aldi has only just recently received approval to construct its very first store in Majorca.

Authorities in the Balearic state gave the green light for the proposed plans to build a 1,500 square meter supermarket in Marratxí on the island of Majorca last week.

Aldi has been represented in Spain since the year 2000 and most of its stores are located in Barcelona, Seville, Madrid and Alicante.

Its German rival Lidl has been present in Majorca since 2001, where it operates 14 stores. According to local media reports Lidl have set a target of opening a further 6 stores in Majorca over the next two years.
