Angola To Get New Hypermarket Chain

Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos is set to open the first Candando hypermarket in the African country. The new store will open on May 10.

It comes approximately one year after the end of a partnership with Portuguese retailer Sonae, which saw the Continente hypermarket chain come to Angola.

The partnership ended after dos Santos hired two Sonae managers to work for Condis, which owns Candando.

The first Candando store will be located in the Avennida Shopping Mall, in the Talatona district of Luanda. It will have a sales area of about 10,000 m2 and, in addition to a coffee shop and fresh products area, there will also be a non-food area with fashion, beauty, health, home articles as well as toys.

Condis plans to invest €348 million over the next five years, opening a total of 10 stores and a logistics center in Luanda, with the aim of becoming the largest retailer in Angola.
