The first hypermarket to be opened under the Auchan banner at a former Real hypermarket site in Russia, launched yesterday, 3 June.
The store, located in the capital city of Moscow, covers 7400 square metres, carries approximately 25,000 products and employs 190 people. The opening of the store, Auchan's 60th hypermarket in the region, will be followed by the transition of a further 15 Real stores before the end of 2013. The stores will be converted to either Auchan or Auchan City banners depending on their size, and each transition will take approximately four to six weeks.
Auchan acquired the Real hypermarket banner in Eastern Europe from Metro Group on 30 November last year. The sale of Real Eastern Europe to the Auchan Group concerns 91 Real hypermarkets in Poland, Russia, Romania and Ukraine, along with 13 shopping arcades in Russia and Romania.
