SPAR, the grocery chain owned by Bac-Pol, is planning to open at least 300 stores in Poland by 2015. The announcement was made by Wojciech Bystron, president of the board. Bac-Pol is working towards reaching over PLN 1 billion (€230.7 million) in revenues from sales at SPAR in 2015.
The group currently has 67 SPAR stores in the country with 25 more stores to open by the end of this year. Private label products will eventually approach 30 to 40 per cent of revenue, said Bystron. At present, the 170 own-label products account for two per cent of sales at SPAR. With its plans to open a minimum of 50 stores annually until 2015, the distribution group is also looking to acquire smaller grocery chains. The group is currently in talks with a number of local operators, said Leszek Bac, chairman of the board at Bac-Pol.
Revenues at Bac-Pol’s distribution division reached PLN 926 million (€213.6 million) in 2010. (22 Sept)
