Barry Callebaut Opens Second Chocolate Factory In Indonesia

Chocolate maker Barry Callebaut has announced that chocolate manufacturing has commenced in its second manufacturing plant in Rancaekek in Indonesia.

The inauguration of the new facility was attended by Ridwan Kamil, governor of West Java, Ben De Schryver, president of Barry Callebaut Asia Pacific, and Hardianto Atmadja, the CEO of PT Garudafood Putra Putri Jaya Tbk.

The new factory, located in the premises of Garudafood’s biscuit factory, is based on a 'plant in plant' concept.

It is part of a long-term supply agreement between Barry Callebaut and Garudafood, signed in November of 2018.

In 2016, the company opened its first chocolate factory in the country in Gresik, located about 800 kilometres east of Jakarta.

Sales volumes of chocolate confectionery grew 3.4% in 2018 in Indonesia, with an annual per capita chocolate consumption of 300 grams, according to a recent Euromonitor report.
