Carrefour: Plassat To Replace Olofsson

Carrefour has confirmed that Georges Plassat, head of the Vivarte fashion chain, is to become its new Chairman and CEO. The news follows much recent speculation about Carrefour’s plans to replace current CEO Lars Olofsson, who informed the Board of Directors that he would not seek to renew his current contract.

Plassat will take over from Olofsson as of from June 18. He will initially join the group in April as Chief Operating Officer; his appointment will be proposed at the first Board meeting following the Assembly. He faces tremendous challenges ahead as he looks to revive the group’s fortunes, particularly in its home market, where it has been losing market share to its rivals. The industry awaits with interest his decisions on the roll out of the Planet hypermarket concept, which is now under review.

Plassat said he was well aware of the magnitude of the task ahead, which will require the support of all within the company. (30 Jan)
