Carrefour Romania Introduces Waste Oil Recycling Initiative

Carrefour Romania has started collecting waste oil from customers, as part of its latest initiative to reduce the negative impact on the environment.

Customers can bring their used oil in transparent plastic bottles, between 1kg and 4kg, to Sigurec recycling centres. The oil must be filtered, clean, and free of food or water residue. It is then processed to make bio-diesel - an environmentally friendly fuel.

Recycling Partnership

Carrefour Romania has had a partnership with Sigurec for four years. At the 21 Sigurec collection stations located near Carrefour stores, customers have recycled over 16 million units of PET waste, aluminium and bottles, as well as over 4,500 tonnes of electrical, paper and cardboard waste.

Depending on the quantity and type of waste recycled, a voucher is issued to the customer that can be used to receive discounts in Carrefour stores.
