French e-commerce website Cdiscount reported €43 million in business volumes during last week’s Black Friday shopping event.
The sales resulted in an 80% increase in volume and were fivefold the amount recorded on a typical day, according to Cdiscount.
A total of eight million people visited the website, which is a subsidiary of French retailer Groupe Casino.
The website made substantial sales in the electronics and toy section, selling as many as 10,000 PS4 consoles, and 200,000 toys and video games.
The retailer said that stand-out item this year was the hoverboard, 1,500 of which were sold within a few minutes after midnight.
Social Media Engagement
The online retailer also noted strong customer engagement on social media with its channels reporting some 223,000 interactions with customers that day.
“These results prove that Cdiscount continuously rises to its customers’ expectations by making the best products and services available to them at the most competitive prices,” said Emmanuel Grenier, chairman and CEO of Cdiscount.
“Black Friday 2017 also confirms that French consumers trust Cdiscount to meet their shopping needs on major occasions, particularly at Christmas. All of our teams are working hard to ensure that our customers have a successful holiday season.”
This week, online retail specialist Ocado signed an international partnership with Cdiscount’s parent company Groupe Casino to help it develop its online channels.
