Fruit Attraction Preview

The focus of the fruit and vegetable industry will be on Madrid this October 20-22 for this year's Fruit Attraction, with this year's event acting both as a meeting point for the fresh produce sector and a catalyst to get the industry back on track following the COVID-19 crisis. ESM looks at what attendees can expect from this year's edition.

Dairy Products

According to a recent study by FMCG Gurus, consumers are increasingly seeking out products with locally-sourced ingredients, 'clean label' product formulation and sustainability credentials – areas to which the Dairy Products industry is well-attuned. Healthy living is leading to a wealth of investment in dairy products with added-value benefits, such as protein milkshakes, while many retailers are also embracing animal welfare as part of their dairy offering. While the COVID-19 crisis has undoubtedly had some impact on production chains, this is one category that has well positioned for future growth. ESM reports.

Kantar Brand Footprint Report

The Kantar Brand Footprint report showcases the brands that are winning at the 'moment of truth' – when they are chosen by shoppers. Tracking purchasing habits around the world, it's an important barometer of how consumers are shopping on a global level. For the fifth year running, ESM will showcase the most-chosen brands in several key European markets, and examine what these statistics tell us about the continent's shopping habits.

Meat & Poultry

The Meat and Poultry category is facing a number of challenges at present – most notably due to the COVID-19 crisis – however careful adherence to changing consumer demands means there are still plenty of opportunities in the category. ESM speaks to leading firms engaged in meat production about what they are doing to develop a point of difference.

Warehouse & Supply Chain Automation

The growing complexity of the retail environment means that automation is fast becoming a 'need to have' in the sector, rather than a 'nice to have'. The silos of 'online' and 'offline' retail are becoming increasingly blurred; consumers expect to be able to shop as and how they want, with the same degree of service, and not pay a penny more than they have to. In short, he world of retail continues to change – and logistics automation is a key facilitator of that change ESM examines the rise of Warehouse and Supply Chain Automation.

Tea, Coffee & Hot Drinks

The Hot Drinks market has seen no shortage of innovation in recent years, with consumers seeking increased convenience and ready-to-drink options, healthy living (particularly with regard to tea) and premiumisation. Consumers expect their at-home coffee or tea experience to be as satisfying as that of a café, leading to widespread new product development. At the same time, however, shoppers want to be surprised by the category – traditional tea blends are being shunned in favour of infused or organic variants. ESM reports.
