Convenience Division Continues To Expand At Waitrose

Waitrose is to create 'hundreds of new jobs' in the London region with the opening of at least ten new Little Waitrose stores next year.

The retailer plans to open a further four convenience shops by the end of this year's programme, with sites to be opened at Sidcup, Monument, East Putney and at another location yet to be confirmed, which will create up to 200 positions.

More than 500 people applied for 50 jobs in just three days at Waitrose's new Monument shop, which is to open on 10 September, with the recruitment window closing early following the overwhelming response.

Commenting on the announcement, Waitrose Director of Development, Nigel Keen, said, "In what is a challenging time for high streets we are pleased to be in a position to bring forward plans for new investment, which ensures we can continue build our presence in and around London."

He added, "Although we are still relatively new to the convenience sector, our opening programme is gathering pace and we are building sales all the time."
