Coop Denmark has announced a number of new measures to reduce pesticide residue in fruit and vegetables by 50%.
As a part of its new pesticides strategy, Coop Denmark will ensure that more of its products are freed from pesticide residue.
Problematic Pesticides
It will also take steps to ensure that suppliers eliminate the use of problematic pesticides.
The retailer has imposed a ban on 37 pesticides, which are already prohibited in EU nations.
Thomas Roland, CSR chief executive at Coop, explained that Danish farmers are performing well when it comes to pesticide reduction, but it is not always the case with fruit and vegetables imported from outside the EU.
Concerned Customers
Research has revealed that three in four Danish customers are concerned about pesticide residues in food items.
Coop's new pesticide strategy is a continuation of its long-standing work aimed at phasing out problematic chemicals, the company said.
