Coop Switzerland Acknowledged By WWF

Retailer and wholesaler Coop Switzerland has improved in almost all areas of the WWF’s environmental rating, compared to the last time that a rating was taken, in 2015.

The WWF described the group’s sustainability services as ‘trend-setting’ and ‘visionary’, and with this in mind, Coop is ambitious to continue with its commitment to people, animals and nature.

“We are very proud that we have, once again, achieved a top spot in the WWF environmental rating, and have also been able to improve on 2015,” said Bruno Cabernard, head of sustainability at Coop.

A Good Example

In its report, the WWF emphasises that Coop is ‘leading the way’ through its commitment in the fields of research and development, and product sourcing.

In Switzerland, Coop has the most products with a WWF-recommended sustainability label, with sustainability deeply rooted in its corporate strategy.

Moreover, it is continuously reducing its energy consumption and relying on renewable energy sources to achieve its aim of being carbon neutral by 2023.

The company was able to reduce its CO2 emissions by 27.8% between 2008 and 2016.

“With its active involvement in numerous environmental projects and its participation in industry initiatives, Coop is making an important contribution to improving sustainability standards throughout the Swiss retail sector,” said Sylvia Meyer, WWF.

Coop was the first Swiss retailer to become a strategic partner of WWF Switzerland, in 2006.
