Research by the Spanish Organización de Consumidores (OCU) has found that supermarket prices are cheapest in the Córdoba region of Spain, 4 per cent cheaper than Seville when it comes to branded goods, and around 12 per cent cheaper than Bilbao, San Sebastian and Tenerife.
Prices are more pronounced when it comes to fresh produce, with a typical basket of fresh produce having a price differential of 74 per cent depending on where customers shop.
The OCU highlighted its message for the consumer - "busque y compare" (find and compare), saying that customers can save €1,300 a year simply by shopping around €200 more than would have been possible last year. (24 Sept)© 2010 - ESM: European Supermarket Magazine
