Dealz Set To Incorporate Pep&Co Clothing Outlets

Irish discounter Dealz is set to introduce Pep&Co clothing outlets into its larger stores, according to The Irish Times.

Dealz, which is the Irish subsidiary of the UK's Poundland, is looking to take on discount clothing retailers like Penneys (Primark) and increase footfall in its own stores.

Larger Poundland stores in the UK already host Pep&Co clothing outlets. Pep&Co is Poundland’s sister company, both being owned by Steinhoff International.

Pep & Co operates 170 stores in the UK, of which 140 are located inside Poundland discount outlets, according to Lebensmittel Zeitung.

Limited Competition

The concept behind this move is to bring discount family clothing to small- and medium-sized towns, where there is limited competition, Adrian Mountford, managing director of Pep&Co, told The Irish Times.

He added that more details of the outlets that will sell the range will be released in January 2018.

“The economics of having two stores in the same town paying two lots of rent, and two lots of service charges doesn’t make sense when you have one store big enough to house both,” Mountford said.

Pep&Co’s UK range includes jeans for £5 (€5.70) or a pair of trainers for £12 (€13.60). Penney’s lowest priced jeans are on sale for €8 online, while the cheapest trainers are sold for €6.

Earlier in the year, Poundland announced that it aimed to increase the rollout of clothing from Pep&Co in its stores.
