Donal Horgan To Step Down From Musgrave GB Helm

Musgrave Retail Partners GB has announced that Managing Director Donal Horgan is to step down from his position at the beginning of May.

After three years at the helm of British retail chains Londis and Budgens, Horgan is to leave the UK arm of the Irish retail wholesaler.

Chris Martin, Musgrave Group chief executive, said Horgan "was appointed managing director of the GB business in October 2010. Now having completed more than three years in GB, Donal intends to leave the business and return to Ireland. We would like to thank Donal for his contribution to the Musgrave Group over the last 17 years.”

In an email to Budgens retailers, reported on by Conveniencestore.co.uk, Martin said: "As the retail market goes through fundamental and permanent structural change, with discounters becoming more mainstream and the multiples intensifying competition in the convenience sector, we remain focused on strengthening the Budgens brand."

Horgan is one of a number of high-profile Musgrave GB exits over the past year. Former finance director Julie Wirth and trading director Kenton Burchell left the company in 2013, followed by sales director Scott Wharton in February of this year.

Regional sales director Scott Wharton departed in February of this year, and regional sales directors Brian McCaughey and John Miller left last month.

Peter Ridler has been appointed to succeed Horgan as managing director of the GB business and will take up his new role on 6 May.

Ridler was formerly retail director for Tesco UK, chief executive of Tesco Poland, managing director of Monsoon Accessorize, and managing director of Body Shop.

“We look forward to working with Peter and to welcoming him to the Musgrave Group”, said Martin.
