Double Anniversary For Netto Marken-Discount

German supermarket chain Netto Marken-Discount is celebrating a double anniversary this year. The year 2018 marks the company's 90th anniversary of its foundation, and also the 35th anniversary of the launch of the Netto Marken-Discount concept.

As a part of the celebration, Netto will organise anniversary activities for its customers throughout September 2018.

The company was launched in 1928 in the Bavarian city of Regensburg. It now has 4,200 branches and around 75,150 employees across Germany.

With 21 million weekly customers, it is one of the top three discounters in the food retail sector in the country.

A Success Story

In its initial years, the company supplied independent retailers with high-quality products as food wholesalers.

The foundation stone of its own branch network was laid in 1971 in Bavaria with the opening of the first SuDi market (Super Discount).

In 1983, the first Netto Marken-Discount store opened in Regensburg, while the SuDi markets were gradually converted to the Netto Marken-Discount banner.

In 2005, Netto Marken-Discount became part of the EDEKA network as part of the Spar acquisition.

The Netto Concept

Presently, Netto Marken-Discount is one of the German retailers offering the largest selection of groceries in the discount segment. With around 4,000 items, its products are a balanced mix of branded and private label items that are fresh, locally produced and sustainable.

In addition, Netto also offers the largest beverage range among the discounters and a wide selection of organic products.

As a premium partner of the free DeutschlandCard, Netto customers benefit from the multi-partner bonus program with every purchase.
