Edeka Opens New Store In Furtwangen, Germany

German retailer Edeka has opened a new store in Furtwangen, south west Germany. It is the second supermarket in this location, however, as the previous outlet was closed and demolished in 2016.

With around 1,500 square metres of store space, customers can purchase more than 25,000 products, including local and international specialities. New service counters with fresh meat, fish and cheese have been installed.

"We always try to pass on good things to our customers," said Kaufmann Alois Bruder, who operates this store and five other Edeka markets in the region. "Whether quality, competence or service: we are only satisfied when our customers are."

Store Features

The entrance area features a fruit and vegetable department, which forms the supermarket’s new core. An integrated beverage market has also been added, offering many regional alcoholic drinks, including a selection of local wines.

Special focus was placed on the store’s sustainability. Environmentally-friendly technology, such as a heat recovery system, has been installed. In addition, the lightning has been switched to energy-saving LEDs, which lead to a significant reduction in CO2.

Edeka says that the new supermarket is already using 25% less energy than a comparable new standard construction. Additionally, an energy monitoring system has been installed to ensure the continuous optimisation of the technical installations.
