FMCG Inflation In France For Second Consecutive Month

FMCG goods in hypermarkets and supermarkets in France experienced price inflation of 0.05 per cent during August on a month-on-month basis according to statistics published by Iri, lsa-conso.fr reports.

Among the goods driving this are dairy products such as milk (up 1.9 per cent), butter (up 1.4 per cent), and la crème fraîche (up 1.3 per cent); as well as minced meat (up 1.3 per cent).

Furthermore, the hygiene category experienced price inflation of 0.15 per cent, frozen foods inflation of 0.9 per cent, and sparkling wines (mostly champagne) of 0.08 per cent.

Iri commented, “France experienced light FMCG inflation during the month of August.”

This is notable not least because, aside from July 2015, this is the first month during which the French FMCG sector inflated on a month-on-month basis for more than a year. July's inflation also stood at 0.05 per cent.
