Former Netto Boss Takes Charge At Foodservice Denmark

The former CEO of Danish retailer Netto's international division, Claus Juel-Jensen, has been named the new CEO of Foodservice Danmark, the wholesale division of Dagrofa.

Juel-Jensen takes over from Christian J. Storinggaard, with Foodservice Danmark noting that the appointment may be only temporary.

"Christian J. Storinggaard has made a great effort in the past year to grow our foodservice activities," Jesper Lok, chairman of Foodservice Danmark said in a statement.

"In spite of an increase in revenue, earnings have not been the same, and therefore we have chosen to stop cooperation, in agreement with Christian."

Lok added that he still sees "great potential" in the Foodservice Danmark business.

Gardening Leave

As his LinkedIn profile indicates, Juel-Jensen has been on 'gardening leave' from Netto, owned by Dansk Supermarked Group, since February 2017, having taken over over as Netto International CEO in January 2005.

In total, Juel-Jensen spent 25 years with Netto in various roles, including heading up its Germany division.

Announcing his departure from Netto in January 2017, Per Bank, the CEO of Dansk Supermarked, said, "For almost 25 years, Claus Juel-Jensen has been dedicated to Netto, with responsibility for the entire organisation across four countries, over the last 11 years.

"Almost every year, in difficult markets, he has managed to increase both revenue and earnings, so today, Netto is considered to be the largest and best-selling retail chain in Denmark, and with significant growth potential outside Denmark."

Juel-Jensen's departure from Netto followed just six months after the business pulled out of the UK for a second time, after a joint venture with Sainsbury's was terminated after the opening of 16 stores.

Elsewhere, Foodservice Danmark announced that Tore Bekken, CEO of ASKO, and Håkan Åkerström, CEO of Martin & Servera have been added to its Board.
