Franprix Wins ‘Janus du Commerce 2016’ Award

French retailer Franprix  has received the prestigious Janus du Commerce award from the French government for its ‘Mandarine’ store format.

Judges lauded the outlets’ aesthetic qualities, traditional epicerie feel, and convivial nature, complemented by juice bars and well-lit, comfortable shopping spaces.

The award was given to the Groupe Casino banner at Paris’ Quai d’Orsay by Matthias Fekl, the German-born French secretary of state, on 22 November. The five criteria used to judge competitors were economics, aesthetics, customer sentiment, ergonomics, and ethics, a press release says.

Franprix was praised for the leeway it offers individual store managers to ‘personalise’ their shops.

The banner recently began using only organic oranges for its private label juice.
