A German consumer television show has reported how some of the country's supermarkets and discount chains often sell rotten strawberries.
The German public broadcaster NDR said that the investigation it carried out on strawberries being sold in well-known retail stores revealed that six out of the seven stores were selling mouldy fruit. The Federal Office for Agriculture and Food analysed the strawberries for the programme. “These goods should not be marketed,” said Heinrich Stevens from the agriculture office.
