Global Industry Leaders Gather In Tokyo Consumer Goods Market

Over 900 chief executives and senior leaders from the world's top FMCG companies have gathered today in Tokyo at the start of a three-day conference (12-14 June), which will explore the impact of Asia on the global consumer goods market. The summit ('Asia: Shaping Your Future') was opened by CGF co-chairs Muhtar Kent, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the Coca Cola Company and Gareth Ackerman, Chairman, Pick'n'Pay Stores, with Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado giving the keynote address.

The summit will feature key speakers such as Motoya Okada, President of Aeon Co. Ltd, Motoki Ozaki, Chairman of the Board of Kao Corporation, Ryuichi Isaka, President & Chief Operating Officer of Seven-Eleven Japan and Jie Hong, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of China Resources Enterprise Limited to discuss how retail is changing in Japan, China and the rest of Asia, and what approach organizations must now take to take to benefit from these changes.

The CGF Global Summit was set to take place in Japan in 2011, but had to be moved owing to the tsunami of that year. According to Motoya Okado, chief executive at Aeon Co. and board member of CGF, “It’s extremely pleasing to welcome The Global Summit and attending delegates to Japan. This moment has actually been a long-time coming, as the 2011 edition was initially meant to be hosted here, but was relocated due to the devastating tsunami. While those days will never be forgotten, the fact that we are here, only two years later, is something the Japanese membership can be very proud of."?

The CGF is an influential global organisation with over 400 members, representing €2.5 trillion in sales. Membership is equally represented by retailers and manufacturers. (12 June)
