ICA Sweden Sees Slight Dip in Sales in April

Swedish retail group ICA Gruppen has seen sales in its stores decrease slightly in the month of April.

Overall sales from its Stormarknad, Kvantum, ICA Supermarket and Nära banners were down 0.8 per cent compared to the same month in 2015. Like-for-like sales decreased by 1.1 per cent.

Excluding VAT, the group recorded a total of SEK 8,893 million (€957m) in sales. Despite the drop in April, sales for the first four months of 2016 have increased by 3.5 per cent to SEK 35,289 million (€3,798m).

Sales were down across all the group's platforms, including its hypermarket business, Stormarknad (-0.4%), its superstore business, Kvantum (-1.0%), its Supermarket operation (-1.1%) and its convenience stores, Nära (-0.4%).

ICA currently operates some 1,301 stores in Sweden. It recently reported strong Q1 results for 2016.
