Iceland To Introduce Christmas Menu In Plastic-Free Packaging

UK retailer Iceland is to launch a plastic-free Christmas range to offer sustainable options to its customers, according to a report in Retail Gazette.

The assortment includes 30 Christmas menu options comprising starters, mains, and desserts in plastic-free packaging.

The managing director of Iceland, Richard Walker, was quoted in Retail Week saying that he did not want to the range to be a "token effort" but a representation of Iceland's environmentally-conscious goals.

Trial Phase

The retailer will trial the products in its Hackney store before rolling it out in other outlets.

The pilot project is expected to reduce the purchase of more than 210,000 plastic carrier bags, the report said.

The retailer has also recycled more than one million plastic bottles since the launch of its 'reverse vending machine' trial in May of last year.
