France's competition authority has cleared Intermarche's move to acquire retail venture Altis. The competition watchdog has announced that it has cleared Intermarche's acquisition of Altis, the 50/50 venture by Carrefour and Spanish retailer Eroski.
Six hypermarkets, ten supermarkets and four discount stores in south west France are operated on a franchise basis by Altis for Carrefour. It generated €499 million in sales in 2010, said Carrefour.
The French competition watchdog has asked Intermarche to sell five Carrefour Market outlet to assuage competition concerns. (11 Apr)
